As many as two-thirds of GLBT and questioning students report feeling unsafe in school because of their sexual orientation (GLSEN, 2005), which may also negatively influence adolescents’ home life and activities beyond campus.
Partnering with Communities in Schools Houston, MCC’s Safe Zones Project was established in 2009 to provide GLBTQ youth ages 13-18 with behavioral health screening, affirming group support, and individual/family therapy at participating Houston
area high school campuses.
Safe Zones is made possible by a generous grant from the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health. For more information about this program, please call 713-529-0037 x353.
