Chemical
Dependency Treatment Program
The Chemical Dependency Program provides a combination of education, therapy, and counseling. It is a state-licensed, out-patient treatment program designed primarily for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender communities. All phases of the program offer services to family members and others significant in the lives of clients participating in the program.
The Chemical Dependency Treatment Program offers individual, couples/family and group psychotherapy.
We believe that alcohol and drug addiction is a progressive chronic condition resulting from a combination of biological, environmental, psychological and sociological factors, which if left untreated will result in death. While the program is not affiliated with any twelve-step organization, it does believe that a social support component is necessary for continued long term recovery from substance abuse and in keeping with this belief supports the twelve-step philosophy. We also believe that treatment of chemical dependency requires a staff specially trained in assisting persons to recover from substance abuse.
Montrose Counseling Center acknowledges that chemical dependency may occur with other related difficulties commonly experienced by persons suffering from addiction. However, it is our belief that for successful treatment to take place during early recovery, chemical dependency issues must be a primary focus of therapy. Consequently, in support of this need to focus on chemical dependency issues, we utilize a cognitive behavioral approach in initial treatment. If there are other difficulties (such as a mental health problem), we address these needs along with the treatment for addiction. We also acknowledge the need for flexibility in treatment planning to better meet the specialized needs of a diverse client population and specifically those dealing with HIV and/or AIDS infection.
