HIV Outreach
Mission:
To reduce the risk of HIV through the promotion of safer sex and needle use
and to stop or reduce substance use.
Services Offered: Our Outreach Program serves injection drug users
(IDUs) and other substance users at risk for HIV infection who may or may
not be seeking treatment. Participants are assessed for risk behaviors; provided
with information about reducing risk; condom and bleach kit demonstrations;
referrals to case management, health services, alcohol and drug treatment,
and other social services; and education directed towards informing them about
the relationship between drugs (especially injection drugs) and communicable
diseases. Free HIV and TB screenings are offered to persons who are identified
as being at risk for HIV infection and are uncertain of their HIV status.
